They Thought They Found Their Missing Child: The Paul Fronczak Case

Paul Joseph Fronczak was just one day old when he was stolen from a Chicago hospital in 1964. The heartbreaking story made headlines all around the country. When he was ten years old, Paul Fronczak went down to his parents’ basement, looking for Christmas presents. He pushed the sofa aside so that he could get into the crawl space. That’s where he discovered three strange boxes full of sympathy cards, letters, and newspaper clippings. He noticed one headline which read “200 search for stolen baby.” Another one read, “Mother asks kidnapper to return baby.” He recognized his parents in the photos looking worried and much younger. He then read that their baby boy, Paul Joseph, had been abducted. His first thought was, “Wow, that’s me!”
